At Cult Factory, we celebrate Woman Crush Wednesday on Throwback Thursday. Here's some vintage #inspo from a babe we've been crushing on for years:
MIXTAPE VOL. 28
CITY SOUNDS: MISS VELVET
So often I dream of living in NYC during the '60s or '70s, before the days of digital presences, when, in order to absorb the city's culture-scene, you actually had to be present. Discovery of artists and musicians was left to chance exposure -- impromptu shows and unpredictable encounters... in real life.
Well, The Gramercy Park Hotel took note of this void and is here to entertain all of our bohemian fantasies with the resurgence of its artist residency series. Having hosted a wave of well-known musicians including Liza Minelli, Rufus Wainwright, and even Guns N' Roses, the hotel is now opening its stage to a new set of emerging artists.
Enter: Miss Velvet
Selected by The Gramercy Park Hotel for a two-month performance residency in anticipation of her debut album, Dreams Are Not For Us, you're probably wondering who is this mysterious songstress? Well, a better question would be who is she not? A lithe figure with cascading blonde hair and intensely dreamy vocals, it's hard to not relate Miss Velvet to the legendary icons who've also captivated us with their movement. Even I was referential the first time I wrote about her, feeling "the sensual romance of Lana del Rey and the vocal soul of Jim Morrison" within this dynamic musician. Add the intensity of Janis Joplin, the softness of Etta James, and the performance swagger of Mick Jagger and then you have it -- the eclectic persona that is Miss Velvet.
Until her album drops and we have more rad stuff to share about this on-the-rise performer, stop by and see Miss Velvet at The Gramercy Park Hotel to get a taste of classic NYC and feel the music (upcoming shows: February 10th, February 24th at 2 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY).
